When: Beginning of September

Where: Chatsworth House and Garden, Derbyshire

Hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, the Chatsworth Country Fair is a lively mix of pageantry and fine food. The fair’s Grand Ring hosts demonstrations by the Household Cavalry, the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers, and Jump4Heroes Parachute Display Team, among others. After enjoying a fun-filled spectacle, head over to the Fine Food Village and Cookery Theatre. Headliners include some of the UK’s finest chefs who will share some of their culinary secrets through live demonstrations. Make sure you sample the delectable offerings of the Fine Food Village before heading back to Croft Meadows to try your hand at some new dishes in your self-catering cottage. Well-behaved dogs on leads are allowed.

Where: Leek, Staffordshire

With the tagline ‘More Than a Shop Local Campaign’, Totally Locally Leek features local food and drink vendors as well as handmade crafts by area artisans. With over 40 stalls, there’s something for everyone to sip or sample. Try some local wine produced in Derbyshire or handcrafted ales after enjoying freshly baked scones. Take some time to enjoy the lively atmosphere as you browse for a special treat to take back to your holiday cottage.

Stone Food Festival

When: End of September

Where: Stone, Staffordshire

As Staffordshire’s biggest gastronomic festival, the Stone Food Festival has something to satisfy everyone’s appetite. The main festival at Westridge Park includes cookery classes, a chili cook-off, live music, and the Stone Food and Drink Festival Ale Trail. On Saturday, the Festival’s Farmers’ Market winds through the High Street, where you can pick out some special treats for yourself. There are several pre-festival events worth visiting as well, including a spice sniffing challenge, craft beer tastings, and traditional Sunday lunch with local produce. With children’s craft tents and cookery classes, this event is perfect for a family-friendly holiday (but sorry, no dogs allowed at the festival).
